You *should* be proud of being a Radge - and do drop me a link to your blog when you can. 23 Daveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06341570374606412042noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5127089990236298037.post-7204378203033675002014-05-15T15:12:00.751-07:002014-05-15T15:12:00.751-07:00Hey David! I left performance poetry for a career in blogging, which pays only slightly more than poetry ;-)
Peggy Pegworthhttp://peggymelmoth.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5127089990236298037.post-83496867201834485032014-02-05T13:12:04.473-08:002014-02-05T13:12:04.473-08:00Thanks so much for dropping by, Joolz! You're right, you did say that SW didn't start until later - I'll probably go away and correct that.

You should have kept "The Cellar" going, Niall - but then of all the nights I can think of, that seemed to be most in keeping with the weird 2005-7 period.

In retrospect, "New Blood" was a lot more important than I gave it credit for at the time. It's only when thinking back about how few opportunities there were for new poets in the nineties that I realised how vital nights like that one were.23 Daveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06341570374606412042noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5127089990236298037.post-51807003172776980782014-01-31T15:08:16.324-08:002014-01-31T15:08:16.324-08:00Wow, amazing blog. Lots of stuff I thought I'd forgotten and a few things I wished I hadn't.

I will quickly add though, that I didn't date the Spoken Word era as 2005+. That was what I tagged as The Death of Performance Poetry, a time where page/stage boundaries and many other boundaries seemed to come crashing down. I pointed out that there wasn't a handing over of the baton, but a bit of a gap between the end of the PP era and the birth of the SW era (which I agree would be about 2007) with what I see as the most interesting stuff happening in those two years. Also I don't necessarily think SW is better, rather that the worst SW isn't as bad as the worst PP. All horse for courses though.

That minor quibble apart, I really enjoyed this and thanks for name checking The Cellar. I almost feel a bit guilty about how much I neglected that night in the end.

Cheers,

NiallNiall O'Sullivanhttp://niallosullivan.co.uknoreply@blogger.com
